It is easy to find Jean-Pierre Vazart: the tall vigneron usually stands out from the crowd and welcomes everyone with a gentle and kind smile. He is the third generation of the domain Champagne Vazart-Coquart & Fils, located in Chouilly, a Grand Cru village of the Côte des Blancs, and which he took over from his parents in 1995.

In the last two years he has built a new winery to gain more space and increase flexibility. Just a short drive from his domain he now has all the modern facilities he had hoped for, giving him enough space to work more comfortably compared to his previous small facilities, and also enabling him to let other vignerons use one of his presses during harvest.

Champagne Vazart-Coquart

Owning 11 ha of vines exclusively planted in Chouilly, Jean-Pierre Vazart has become one of the specialists of this terroir over the last 23 years. With its soft and approachable minerality, relatively early drinkability, and its tender exotic notes, the Grand Cru Chouilly terroir stands out from the rest of the Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs, who are much more austere, severe, and unforgiving compared to their direct neighbor. Just like his wines, Jean-Pierre Vazart is gentle and kind, loves to joke, and can sometimes be a bit shy. However, he is one of the few vignerons who has understood how to use the flavors of this unique terroir and bring out the best in it.
